Flood preparedness in Conshohocken just received a major upgrade. The borough has installed new river gauges and live camera systems along the Schuylkill River, giving residents and emergency responders more accurate, real-time flood data.

Previously, Conshohocken relied on flood readings from a river gauge located in Norristown. However, borough officials discovered that this data was often unreliable for local conditions. Differences in tributaries, including Plymouth Creek, created significant discrepancies in water levels—sometimes by as much as six feet—making it difficult to accurately predict flooding within Conshohocken itself.

New USGS River Gauge at Matsonford Bridge

To address the issue, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) installed a dedicated river gauge at the Matsonford Bridge in 2024. This gauge provides:

  • Real-time water level readings

  • Historical flood data

  • Publicly accessible online information

This allows both residents and local officials to monitor river conditions specific to Conshohocken rather than relying on regional estimates.

Additional Flood Cameras Installed in 2025

In 2025, a second camera system was added near the Conshohocken Rowing Center. Together, the two camera locations give visual confirmation of river conditions, improving situational awareness during heavy rain events and potential flooding.
