After nearly a year of uncertainty, a major healthcare landmark in Delaware County may soon return to service. The former Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland Borough has been purchased by new owners who plan to reopen the campus as a modern, “right-sized” hospital—bringing critical medical services back to the community.

According to reporting from the Philadelphia Business Journal, New Jersey–based Chariot Equities and Allaire Health Services acquired the closed facility for $10 million and intend to restore hospital operations within the next two years.

What’s Planned for the Crozer-Chester Campus

The former flagship hospital of Crozer Health sits on a 64-acre campus and includes more than 400 beds. The new ownership team says the facility will reopen as a smaller, more efficient acute-care hospital designed to meet today’s healthcare demands.

Planned services include:

  • Emergency care

  • Inpatient hospital services

  • Ambulatory and outpatient care

The hospital was closed last spring after Prospect Medical, the former operator, filed for bankruptcy—leaving Delaware County with limited access to emergency and inpatient services.

Nonprofit Partner Sought to Operate the Hospital

Chariot Equities has stated it is actively seeking a nonprofit health system partner to operate the facility and hopes to secure one within the next six months. The goal is to ensure the long-term sustainability of the campus while restoring trust and access for area residents.
