Montgomery County is preparing to open its first supportive short-term housing facility since the closure of the Coordinated Homeless Outreach Center (CHOC) in 2022, marking a significant step in addressing the county’s growing homelessness challenges — particularly in Lansdale.

County officials report that the number of unhoused individuals in the Lansdale area has increased in recent years, rising from approximately 30 individuals to closer to 50. The new facility is intended to provide temporary, supportive housing while connecting residents with critical services aimed at long-term stability.

Details of the New Lansdale Supportive Housing Facility

The facility, located at 1107 E. Main Street in Lansdale, will offer 20 beds and be operated by Resources for Human Development, a nonprofit organization specializing in housing and human services. Plans for the building include a mix of single and double occupancy rooms, along with shared bathrooms, laundry facilities, and community gathering spaces.

Beyond shelter, the program is designed to deliver comprehensive, trauma-informed support services, including:

  • Mental health resources

  • Employment training and job readiness support

  • Services for veterans

  • Case management and stabilization assistance

The goal is to help residents transition from homelessness into more permanent housing solutions.

Construction Timeline and Delayed Opening

Construction on the supportive housing project began in March 2025, with an initial goal of opening in the fall. However, as work continues, the opening timeline has shifted, and county officials now anticipate the facility will open in early 2026.

Advocates have stressed the urgency of expanding safe housing options, particularly as colder weather approaches and demand for shelter continues to grow across Montgomery County.
